Miscarried Baby Ministry

A Ministry of St. Patrick

Miscarried Baby Ministry

St. Patrick Catholic Church is blessed to have many different ministries providing wonderful services for the church and the greater community. That blessing is multiplied when ministries combine their efforts and work together to create something that has a lasting effect like the new MisCarried Baby area in our cemetery, which was dedicated by Father David Blume on May 11, 2013.

Several years ago, members of the Life Matters group approached Father David Blume with the idea of having a special place in our cemetery to bury babies lost in the womb and to give comfort to grieving parents. The Cemetery Committee was consulted and agreed that this was a wonderful idea, thus the MisCarried Baby Ministry was formed. To begin this project, members visited the site at Epiphany to generate ideas to use in our own design plan.

The committee met, consulted other parishioners, and soon a design was completed. The group decided to move the statue of Christ with the Little Children to the new site and mark each row of burial plots with a black granite monument.

The MisCarried Baby Burial Ministry is supported by three St. Patrick’s organizations: the Cemetery Committee provides the cemetery space, prepares the graves, and keeps records; the Knights of Columbus provide the granite monuments; and the Circles of Claddagh provide the small caskets that are used for burial. The MisCarried Baby Burial Ministry provides this service at no cost to the parents. Local hospitals and other organizations have been notified of this ministry.
